2012 Phenomenon

I don't mean to be an alarmist but while watching non news programs local and national for the past week has made me wonder... were the Mayans right?

A New Age interpretation of this transition posits that, during this time, the planet and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era.[3] Conversely, some believe that the 2012 date marks the beginning of an apocalypse. May that year be not be the year of doom but as rather as a shift in consciousness. We can only pray and do our duty by starting at home, applying the ways on how we could best help global warming from beating our world down.

It's so hard most of the time though when we get struck by calamity after calamity. In a modern age where people should know better than to kill each other through wars, crimes and polluting our environment, we still don't learn and worst, most doesn't care.

Terrorism
War for business
Biological Warfare
Famine
Typhoons
Tsunamis
Earthquakes
Nuclear weapons

Last week our beloved Philippines was hit with the most devastating typhoon in the history but despite all that God is still good because it has brought out mostly the best in people which is what we call "Bayanihan". Rich and poor, young and old, Filipinos and citizens of all over the world has extended their heart and helping hand to the victims. We must give accolade to real life heroes such as 18 year old Muelmar who saves 30 and losing his own life in the process and the judge on jet ski that saves a hundred but most of all we should give accolade to the volunteers, to the military, AFP and marine personnels who braved the flood to save lives; to the private companies who donated millions in cash and in kind; to the television networks and their crews for cutting down their regular programing and focusing on asking for donations and going to places that needed help, for the OFW's all over the world who immediately took action, solicited and sent help.

We are not done yet. There are still a lot of things to do. People to feed. Houses to rebuild. Pets and other animals to find and give shelter to. Rivers and canals to clean up.

According to Oxfam expert, although IMHO, we don't need an expert to know that this tragedy happened because of our own doing. Throwing garbage without second thoughts if it will clog our rivers and canals, we used materials and doesnt care if it is environment friendly, we drive to short distances even when we can walk. We become so complacent and this is nature's way of awakening us.

We have to learn from this. We are now given another chance. God and mother nature has given us another chance. Couple of days ago, it was announced that not one but two storm is on the way to the Philippines following Ondoy but last night, we saw this:
Our chance to learn and rebuild. To shift our consciousness for the better. The 2 typhoons are moving away from the Philippine are of responsibility. Although that is great news, I also hope that it won't hit the other countries and just disappear and if it didn't we should pray that it won't be catastrophic. Source

Before heading off from work today, I saw from the news another devastating rude awakening from nature. An earthquake in the South Pacific and hurled a four massive tsunami at American Samoa, flattening villages, leaving 82 dead and dozens missing.

Another country and so many people needs our prayers

As citizens of the world, it is time to put down arms, stop the blame game and take action to help, to make this world a better place and to pray, irregardless of our religious beliefs. It is time to unite.
