Malu Fernandez vs OFW's - Case SOLVED.

12:16 AM

Good for you! I say to Malu Fernandez who resigned to her post as a writer on People Asia and Manila Standard.

I did not intent to write anything about this woman, as I've read her article from Buddy of Dubai , it's apparent that she's nothing but a farce. A nobody who wants to fit in to the upper middle class of society through her media connections. On that much talked about article, I sensed a hint of defensiveness, like she's trying to convince people and even herself that she rightly belong to that faux society she's living in. She's trying to convey people that she was, to quote her, "fierce and fabulous" by sarcasm and showing off. Her english is elementary and her constant mention of labeled stuff only reinforced my opinion that she's nothing but a wannabe.

I gave her my benefit of the doubt and say maybe she's just callous and ill bred and she doesn't know any better that's why she writes how she writes. She can't do it any other way.

When I saw on TV Patrol tonight that she resigned on both media modules due to death threats and she even apologized. This time much mellow than her first attempt.

“I am humbled by the vehement and heated response provoked by my article. To say that this article was not meant to malign, hurt or express prejudice against the
OFWs now sounds hollow after reading through all the blogs from Filipinos all
over the world,” Fernandez said in her latest statement on the online version of
Manila Standard Today.

She added: “I am deeply apologetic for my insensitivity and the offensive manner inwhich this article was written, I hear you all and I am properly rebuked. It was truly not my intention to malign hurt or express prejudice against OFWs.”Fernandez admitted being insensitive and offensive, as she apologized to the OFWs for whatever she had written. Sought for an interview by ABS-CBN, Fernandez declined. She, however, sent a letter, saying, "I take full responsibility for my actions and my friends and family have nothing to do with this. To date I have submitted my resignation letters to both the Manila Standard and People Asia, on that note may this matter be laid to rest.”

I am interrupting my usual nonchalance to say, you get what you deserved Malu. OFW's didn't do anything to you. It wasn't their fault that you were poor than you care to admit that's why you can only afford to sit in economy class (but now that you're out of job I wonder if you can even afford economy). I also have you know that they wore cheap perfumes because they sent their whole salary back to home so that the country you're regaling in could still survive and be somehow economically afloat. You deserve the criticism and backlash that you got, you ingrate.

If there is lesson to be learned here, that is not to under estimate the OFW's because we are a force to reckon with. Let Malu be a perfect example that no matter how fierce and fabulous you are, the one you called lowly OFW's will topple you down.

Mga kabayan, now that justice has been served why don't we leave it at that? Forgo the death threats. Forget the filing of cases. I know you'll say she should be punished but isn't her humiliation and loss of job punishment enough? I am sure the media people have all learned their lesson and will think twice before putting us down. Let's rest the case now.

After all, the lesson we are all trying to reinforce here is tolerance of each other. Whatever and wherever we may be, right?
